Based on my experiences I tell my story, portrayed by my favorite animals. Animals play an important role in my work, they are a means to see how far I can go before the line between art and kitsch is crossed. Furthermore I am critical about my own species and our role in the current climate. In the new world I create within my work, all my subjects can finally coexist in harmony. Even though my work might appear sweet and girly at first sight, things are not always as peaceful as they seem. Mythological and fairy-tale like characters are taken out of their original context and are now serving as protagonists in my colorful paintings. Within these paintings the relationship between humans and nature are further investigated.
My way of working is impulsive and associative and so is my use of materials. A collage forms in my head, which I then work out in the material I deem necessary. The studio is a playground and intuition is the most important tool. It ensures that the work becomes an indiscriminate reflection of my current reality. I manipulate and interfere with the space in an energetic and playful way. Because of the position in a space, a painting can suddenly become a spatial work, and an object can look like it came straight out of a painting. Painting is a stretchable concept that can sometimes be treated rigidly. With my direct approach I try to take the formal character of the museum's white wall out of account. I want to redefine these existing conventions with banality and humor.
